December 3, 2024 – Claremore, Oklahoma: Nxtnano, LLC has announced a market wide roll out of nATUR™ their
biobased, biodegradable & patent pending nanofiber air filtration media targeted toward the Indoor Air Quality
and HVAC markets. Engineered as a self-supporting filter media, nATUR™ is positioned to eliminate the need for
petroleum based synthetics and metal support screens used extensively in residential and commercial air filters.
Available in MERV ratings from 10 up to 13 for standard high-cap pleated filter configurations and up to MERV
16+ for mini-pleated filter designs.
“Air filtration is entering a period of dynamic & rapid change. There is regulatory pressure to quantify the
lifetime performance of electrostatic media and their efficiency loss, at the same time end consumers are more
aware and concerned with their air quality and environmental impact than ever before” Said Andrew McDowell,
of NxtNano LLC. “nATUR™ is a unique product that address the short comings of incumbent static materials,
while at the same time offering biodegradability of the entire filter.”
nATUR™ filter media employ a unique combination of biodegradable polymers in the nanofiber as well as the
upstream nonwoven. This composite structure contributes to a media which operates well within industry
norms for pressure drop, but filters mechanically and is not subject to loosing efficiency through charge loss.
Alan Smithies, VP of Technology at Nxtnano LLC, shared: “nATUR™ is a product we have been really excited to
roll out for the last 12 months. We were able to leverage our knowledge gained from the strong adoption of
nanofiber in the IAQ/HVAC filter markets over the last few years to engineer a ground breaking product that
meshes with the existing filter production infrastructure. We have been fortunate to cultivate some exceptional
partnerships from the polymer producers to the nonwovens manufacturers who share our vision on how this
can revolutionize IAQ filtration, and remove a substantial quantity of single use plastics from the environment.”
It is conservatively estimated that each year 260 million disposable HVAC air filters are used in the United States
alone, representing 4.2 billion sq. feet of single use, non-recoverable plastic making it’s way into the
environment. Through nATUR™ NxtNano aims to replace a substantial piece of this, and offer a choice for a
sustainable, biodegradable filter while at the same meeting the need for increased MERV ratings.
